About Minna

MINNA was founded by Sara Berks in 2013 in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Hudson, NY in 2016, where their storefront and studio are now located. They are a tight-knit team of seven artists, creators, and thinkers and queer woman-owned and majority queer or female operated business, which informs their approach as they believe in creating beautiful, ethically made products and using business to do good.

They work collaboratively to create multipurpose products by partnering with master artisans in Central and South America which ensures craft preservation and job creation in these regions. The patterns, colors, and textures are meant to be mixed, matched, and layered for today’s modern home. Designs are informed and inspired by Feminist art, the Bauhaus, traditional craft, and vintage textiles.

Their Design Philosophy

“we care about the world and our place in it. preserving the ancient craft techniques we work with is important to us — we strive to do our part in ensuring that these crafts, and the history, language, and culture that surrounds them, endure in the face of mass production. by pairing traditional methods with a contemporary platform, we can assist in bringing the work of our artisan partners to a wider market. we think that by working within the realm of responsible design, we can do our part in improving the world and people’s lives on an individual level – whether it’s our customers, our employees, or the artisans we work with.”
