First of its kind in the United States
Infarm will be partnering with Kroger, the largest grocery retailer in the US, to install living farms at at two QFC groceries in Bellevue and Kirkland in Seatlle. The move is part of Kroger’s “Zero Hunger | Zero Waste” social impact plan, announced in 2017, to end hunger in local communities and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.
“Our partnership with Infarm allows us to innovate by combining ground-breaking in-store farming technology with our passion for fresh, local produce and ecological sourcing,” Suzy Monford, Kroger’s group vice president of fresh, said in a release. “We’re proud to lead the U.S. on this journey.” Source fast company
Their Mission
Industrial-farming has rendered our land infertile, drained precious water supplies and allowed plant diseases and pesticides to poison our food chain.
Food grown and cut thousands of miles from the mouths it feeds loses its roots, its nutrients and its flavour.
There is another way. In fact, they have made it their mission to create another way.
How? By installing infarms in neighborhoods around the world, saving thousands of food miles, preserving water and natural resources, and laying the foundation for a new urban food system.
This means tastier, more nutritious food for all of us. This also means hope for our planet.
