This is Susanna Bauer
susanna bauer pays tribute to the enduring beauty of nature while reflecting on individual stories and connections. constructed with leaves and finely woven cotton thread crochet, her works hold a fine balance of fragility and strength.
“There is a fine balance in my work between fragility and strength; literally, when it comes to pulling a fine thread through a brittle leaf or thin dry piece of wood, but also in a wider context - the tenderness and tension in human connections, the transient yet enduring beauty of nature that can be found in the smallest detail, vulnerability and resilience that could be transferred to nature as a whole or the stories of individual beings.“ says Bauer.

Right in front of Museum Rijswijk are the sad remains of a once majestic chestnut tree. He is almost 200 years old and was the icon of the museum. Now he is a shadow of what he once was. The parasitic honey fungus has eaten it from within and has taken life out of it relentlessly. How can such a colossal hunk be destroyed by something that has remained invisible for years?
The well-being of our chestnut tree as a metaphor for the concern for nature is the reason to highlight the recently renewed view of nature through the eyes of artists in an exhibition. The Precious Paradise exhibition shows work by artists who have made nature an important subject in their work from a personal and current vision. The works in the exhibition show from different angles how ingenious the cycle of life in nature is, how accessible and at the same time inhospitable it can be.
